Dear SJV FamiliesWelcome to Week 3 on the eve of the Best Fete ever.
Could I please make a plea for parents to see if they can scan their QR code to sell their issued book of raffle tickets? If every family sells a book by next week the school will have made over $5000. The bonus is that one of your neighbours could win $1000. Just a short Newsletter this week given that all eyes are on Saturday.
Dear Lord
As we gather together, we praise You for this day and Your purpose for it. Reset our agendas, as we sit in Your presence. For You assure us that where two or more gather in Your name You are here. Recalibrate our intentions and refocus our hearts.
Fete
What do I need to say? If you are not away this weekend and don't have a family emergency or something extremely pressing, then-
- Turn up to help.
- Turn up so your children can jump, tag, climb and have fun.
- Turn up to be part of our community.
- Turn up to enjoy the food.
- Turn up to win amazing raffles.
- Turn up for awesome coffee.
- Turn up to buy some plants.
- Just turn up, we want your family there, you are our community. Together we are our community!
Teachers Right to Disconnect - Reminder
At SJV, we aim to answer parents within a 48hr period. The reality is that most of the time staff get back to parents on the same day. This may no longer be possible if you contact a staff member outside of 5pm or on the weekend. Staff have been instructed to not contact parents over the weekend or when not at work, keeping them in line with the laws brought in last year. Some of our staff are parents as well as teachers and I have discussed this with them. If parents are asking teachers questions that are school/teacher based instead of parent/friend based, then my advice is to leave this communication until they are back at work. Otherwise teaching becomes are 24/7, occupation which it is not. I know that our wonderful community will respect these boundaries.
School Engagement Survey
Have your say! The new annual School Engagement Survey is launching mid-November, and you will have the opportunity to reflect on your experiences at the school as a parent or guardian and provide feedback.
Your feedback will be valuable to help us understand how to better support your child and improve our school.
The new survey has been developed with the support of JWS Research. It will take around 10-15 minutes to complete, and your responses will be kept completely confidential and only reported at an aggregate level.
You can expect the 2025 School Engagement Survey to be distributed through Compass as a News Item and push notification in the coming days! If you have any issues accessing the survey link, please contact the Catholic Education Office through Strategy.Survey@cg.catholic.edu.au
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our Fete.

Grandfriends Day Celebration
Last Thursday, our school was filled with joy and love as we welcomed so many cherished grandparents and grandfriends to celebrate with us. It was heartwarming to see the special bonds between generations as children proudly shared their school day with their treasured family members.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Stilling and the Kinder class for leading a most reverent and beautiful prayer celebration, honouring the incredible role grandparents play in our lives. The spirit of gratitude and connection was truly felt by all.
Following the celebration, families enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch and spent quality time reading together—creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make Grandfriends Day so special!

Celebrating World Teacher's Day
World Teachers’ Day Celebration
World Teachers’ Day was celebrated on 25th October, a day dedicated to recognising the incredible contributions of our teachers, who shape, guide, and inspire our students every day.
On behalf of the SJV community, the SJV Community Council organised a special delivery of cupcakes to show our appreciation for our amazing staff to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our children. Special thanks to Ash Donley (Year 2 and Kindy Yr 1) from My Sweet Lady for creating these delicious treats!

This Sunday’s Gospel features The Beatitudes, which are undoubtedly amongst Jesus’ most well-known messages to His disciples. The Beatitudes remind us of Jesus’ call to live with compassion, humility, and love for others—especially those in need. In a world where wealth and opportunity are not shared equally, the Beatitudes continue to challenge us to seek justice and equality for all.
Pope Francis encouraged us to live with “poverty of spirit” by placing Jesus before material possessions and by standing in solidarity with the poor, who teach us much about faith, dignity, and trust in God. True happiness, he reminded us, is found not in status or things, but in living as Jesus did—with peace, mercy, and love.
Pope Francis offered six modern Beatitudes for our time:
- Blessed are those who forgive those who have hurt them.
- Blessed are those who show care and compassion to the abandoned and marginalised.
- Blessed are those who see God in every person.
- Blessed are those who care for our common home, the Earth.
- Blessed are those who put the needs of others before their own comfort.
- Blessed are those who work and pray for unity among Christians.
May we, like Jesus, have the courage to live these Beatitudes each day and bring God’s love and peace into the world.

Vinnies Hygiene Station
As always, we are in need of items for our hygiene donation station. We have plenty of toothbrushes and toothpaste, but we are especially in need of the following items:
- Toiletry bags
- Soap and body wash
- Deodorant
If you’re wondering how you can contribute, here are a few simple ideas:
- Planning a holiday? If you visit a hotel and don’t need the complimentary toiletries, consider bringing them home to donate to our hygiene station. Please ensure they are sealed.
- Shopping for yourself? Next time you’re buying a new toothbrush or bottle of shampoo, why not pick up an extra one to help someone in need?
School Masses and Prayer Celebrations
As a school, we regularly attend Mass at St John Vianney’s Church. The choir sings at Mass and sometimes our students have a role in other parts of the celebration. Parents and friends of our school are welcome to join us alongside parishioners at any of these Masses. We also have a number of Prayer Celebrations this term which we also love to see parents and friends attend if you are able. These will take place in the school hall.
Dates for Masses and Prayer Celebrations for this term are:
. Week 5 Tuesday 11th November: Remembrance Day Prayer Celebration, 10:45am, School hall (led by Year 3)
. Week 5 Wednesday 12th November: *Prayer Celebration,* 9:30am, School hall, (led by Year 2) Please note the change from a Mass to a Prayer Celebration.
. Week 7 Wednesday 26th November: Parish Mass, 9:30am, SJV Church (led by Year 3)
. Week 9 Friday 12th December: Thanksgiving Prayer Celebration, 2:40pm, School hall
. Week 10 Wednesday 17th December: Year 6 Graduation Mass, 9:30am, SJV Church (led by Year 6)
SJV Parents and Friends Prayer Group
Our parents and friends prayer group meets on Friday mornings at 8:50am in Naraganawali (our Indigenous community garden) and will finish in time for our Friday morning awards assembly at 9am. In the event of wet weather, we will gather in the meeting room instead. The focus of our group will be to pray for our children. In amongst the turmoil and despair in our world, it is easy to lose hope and become discouraged about what our children and our children’s children will inherit. Our group’s aim will be to put some positive and hopeful prayers to God not only for our own children but for all the children of SJV, of our Parish community, our country and our world.
All parents and friends of SJV are welcome to join, regardless of faith background, whether you are a practising Catholic or it’s been a while since you’ve prayed, we’d love to see you. You will be invited to share any intentions with the group that you may have for your own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or any children special to you. You are welcome to bring any non-school aged children along to the group. No one will be asked to share or verbally participate unless they feel comfortable to do so. I’d encourage you to consider whether this might be something you give a try this term. There is no obligation to attend each week, just whenever you can. Please feel free to contact me: laura.matchett@cg.catholic.edu.au with any questions. I hope to see you there.

It was such a pleasure to take the St John Vianney's students to Boorowa last Friday.
The children demonstrated sportsmanship for other schools and encouragement for their own team mates. The SJV spirit was truly alive!
Thank you to the parents, coaches, volunteers, staff members who dedicated their time to ensure the students were happy, at the right place, at the right time, as well as cheering and supporting them on the sidelines!
Without your support, the day can never be the success that it is.
If you have your child's sport shirt or netball dress, could you please send this in to the front office as soon as possible. We also have a few outstanding fees for Boorowa which can be paid via QKR or the front office.
Thank you again to all the students, parents, carers and staff!

Sports Coordinator
