ABC/The Australian - Articles referencing the Top 20 Schools for ACT
Below I have placed a link to an article that discusses the top performing school in Canberra in NAPLAN in 2023/24. It is pleasing to see that SJV sits on this table. Catholic schools in general are very well represented on this list and these improvements sit firmly with our direct instruction approach. Another reason why SJV is a great school to send your child.

Christmas Cards/ Candy Canes and all things Jolly
A reminder that we are leaving Christmas lollies and cards at home, focussing on good acts towards each other. This will prevent disappointment from some students who miss out and save sugar-filled students.
School Fees 2025
Detailed information has been sent out to all parents today that outlines the CE School/Tuition Fees for 2025.
School Community Council
Please look over the piece in our newsletter from the SCC. This gives a detailed report on what the SCC has done for our school and how it makes a difference. To sum it up, we are a better school because of the extensive parental involvement and support that we receive.
Peter Rodda
Principal
This year, the SJV community has invested $28,600 into resources and support in classrooms, facilities, experiences for students and to build belonging in our school.
This investment is made possible by the generosity, commitment and hard-work of all of us. It is both a sign of and, in turn, contributes to our strong, vibrant community. Most importantly, it makes our kids’ experience at school even better.
The SJV Community Council met for the last time in 2024 on Monday and reviewed a busy and fantastic year of activity.
Investments made this year include:
- $11,500 for literacy resources and classroom support
- $6,000 for the Sensory Garden upgrade
- $3,500 for the gymnastics program
- $1,500 for a coffee machine to use at the fete, by staff and at community events
- $1,400 for the community garden
- $1,000 for the Year 6 graduation
- $1,000 for books for the school library
- $700 for Netball hoop improvements
- $665 for Teacher Appreciation gifts
- $600 on the Welcome BBQ
- $400 for SRC requests for sports equipment
- $400 for SJV branded tablecloths .
The investment in the school has been made possible by the work of parents and friends through the organisation and delivery of the fete, generosity in supporting fundraising efforts and the general willingness of all in the community to come together and contribute to our school.
In addition, the new community garden has been made possible through an ACT Government Block Grant obtained by the Council (and the incredible support of many families to bring it to life).
Finally, the Council also received the sad but very understandable news that after five years of committed service, including for the last two years as Chair, Beth Seivers will step aside in 2025. Beth has been a terrific leader and a motion acknowledging her service was passed (we also noted her commitment to continue being an active part of the community).
Rob Ayling

Please note - Merit Awards will be handed out at NEXT Friday's morning assembly.

Thank you to the families who have already submitted their swimming forms. Jet has delivered these to Mt Stromlo Leisure Centre, however, there are still some students that need to return their swimming enrolment forms. This is a priorty as the classes begin next week, unfortunately, if the children haven't returned this form, they will be unable to participate in the swimming program.
Payment options include QKR, cash, or EFTPOS. Please remember that consent must be given through Compass, though payments will not be processed there at this time. If your family is facing financial difficulties, please reach out to Mr. Rodda for assistance.

Prayer Celebration and Morning Tea to say thank you for a wonderful year
We invite everyone to join us for a Prayer Celebration, followed by a morning tea, where we’ll have the opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks for all your support at SJV.
Christmas_Thank_you_celebration_invite.pdf
Hello everyone,
Can you guess what time of year it is? Yep, it's that time when Mrs. Spackman starts sending out her friendly reminders about those library books still hiding out there, waiting to be returned before the year wraps up.
And guess what? There’s only one week to go—last chance to get those books back!
Now’s the time to check all those secret hiding spots—under beds, behind bookshelves, in the car, at the bottom of your school bag, or who knows… even in the fridge!
A quick heads-up: if any books are lost or looking a little worse for wear, there’s a $10 replacement fee.
If you can track down your books and get them back to the library by next week, you’ll definitely make Mrs. Spackman’s day!
Happy hunting!

Uniform-free days
Friday 13December - Children are invited to come to school in non-uniform clothes in exchange for a gold coin donation to support our school fete.
Monday 16 December - The ELC will also have a non-uniform day on the last day of school, Monday 16 December. For those without younger siblings, we encourage you to donate your pre-loved ELC uniforms on the last day.

With the Christmas season approaching we ask that children do NOT bring candy canes to share with friends. If you choose to bring Christmas cards, they can be placed straight into the notes pockets.
Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Thank you for supporting St Vincent de Paul with your generous donations. They will be collected by local Vinnie’s volunteers this week to be sorted and provided to families in need.
The last day of school is Monday 16 December. If you do not attend the ELC on your last booked day/s then you will not be eligible for CCS for those days. Please contact the ELC office now if you do not plan to attend the ELC on the last day.
Final ELC Fees
ELC fees have now been charged to the end of the year including Monday 16 December. Account balances may change slightly due to the difference between CCS estimates and the CCS actually paid. We will send another account statement and run another direct debit in Week 9 to pick up any small outstanding amounts.
