St Jude's Fete News
Our amazing fete team are already gearing up for the Fete on 15 March and are looking for help to run the ‘Spiral Potatoes’ and are looking for donations for the Plant Stall and the Trash n Treasure. See the Fete section in the newsletter for more information on what and how you can donate.
ELC fees have now been charged to the end of the year including Monday 16 December. Account balances may change slightly due to the difference between CCS estimates and the CCS actually paid. We will send another account statement and run another direct debit in Week 9 to pick up any small outstanding amounts.

Term 4 Week 7 Notes
Welcome to Week 7 of Term 4. "Two weeks and 2 days to go" is what I was told by one of the children who was very excited, or was that one of the teachers?
The holidays are amazing and as we enter the Advent season, it is a great time to focus on what is important.
God of Love,
Your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us.
He is a sign of your love.
Help us walk in that love during the weeks of Advent,
As we wait and prepare for his coming.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Saviour.
Fete/Christmas Raffle Draw
Tomorrow I will have a representative from Blackshaw's Weston Creek, our grand prize sponsor, to draw a raffle ticket from our giant blue barrel. The lucky winner will walk away with $1000 and the runner up with $500. This will be a great Christmas surprise for two lucky families.
Christmas Cards/ Candy Canes and all things Jolly
At this time of year we often see the afore mentioned items coming into the school. Can you please leave these items at home for family and friends or explain to your child that at SJV we celebrate Christmas and gift giving, but the best way to do this is to bring something in for our Christmas Giving Tree. the other alternative is or to use kind words and actions for friends to show them that you really care. This ensures that children do not miss out and no student is upset leading into Christmas.
Semester Awards - Monday 9th September
Our Semester Awards are scheduled for Wk 9 on Monday at 2:10pm. If your child is receiving one of these awards, it would be great if you can attend.

Swimming - Wk 9
Thank you to the majority of families who have returned their swimming notes and paid for classes in Wk 9. Just a gentle reminder that if you have not done this yet, to do so ASAP so we can send these to Stromlo to build the correct class groups.

A message from the Assistant Principal and Mrs D's "Thought of the Week"
As we approach the joyous season of Advent, we are reminded of the beauty and anticipation that this time brings to our faith community. At SJV, the coming weeks will be filled with opportunities to prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits for the celebration of Christ’s birth.
- Gingerbread House Making tonight.
- The SJV Christmas tree will be in the foyer.
- We are collecting donations for the annual St Vinnies appeal. Your generosity helps spread joy to those in our community who are in need.
- Reindeer food - carefully prepared by the SRC will be available from next week - see poster below.
- In classrooms, the children are engaging in Advent reflections, exploring the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.
- Parish BBQ - Friday 6th Dec.
- Preparations are on the way for our Thanksgiving Prayer celebration and Thank you morning tea - Monday 16th December.
- Christmas T-Shirt Day gold coin donation to Global School Partners - 16th December.
- Keep an eye out for our SJV Elf who will be sure to keep an eye on everyone in the lead up to Christmas Day.
Amidst the busyness of the festive season, it’s essential to remember the importance of well-being. The end of the year can bring excitement but also moments of stress for both children and adults. At SJV, we would like to foster a sense of calm and connection during this time.
- Mindful Moments: Teachers are incorporating mindfulness activities into the school day, encouraging students to pause, breathe, and reflect.
- Community Spirit: Our school assemblies and prayer gatherings provide a space for gratitude and togetherness.
- Open Conversations: We remind families to talk about feelings and experiences during this busy time, ensuring children feel supported and heard.
We also encourage families to embrace the season with balance—savouring the joy of Christmas preparations while allowing time for rest and reflection. Advent reminds us not to rush but to wait patiently and prayerfully.
As we approach the final weeks of Term 4, I extend my heartfelt thanks to our staff, students, and families for your dedication and support throughout the year. Together, we have nurtured a community grounded in faith, love, and learning. As you sit with your child's school report, reflect on their growth in who they have become as a little person and celebrate their achievements.
May the hope and promise of the Advent season bring peace to your homes and hearts. I look forward to celebrating this special time with you all in the coming weeks.
"God always answers: maybe today, tomorrow, but he always answers, in one way or another.
Prayer is a question of patience, of supporting the wait. Now we are in the time of ADVENT, a time that is typically of expectation; of expectation, because we know that the Lord will answer." - Pope Francis

Advent
On Sunday, 1st December, we begin the season of Advent—a time of preparation, reflection, and renewal. The first candle of the Advent wreath, the Candle of Hope, will be lit, reminding us of the hope we have in Jesus and the hope we can bring to others.
Advent, meaning “coming,” is a four-week journey to prepare our hearts for Jesus’ birth at Christmas. It is also a time to reflect on how we can share hope, peace, joy, and love with those around us. Together, let us use this season to show kindness, build connections, and support those in need.
Gospel Reflection: Luke 21:25-28. 34-36
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us to stay alert and strong during challenging times, encouraging us to focus on what truly matters. As we prepare for the season of Advent, this is a chance to reflect on how we care for those around us. By supporting one another, helping those in need, and creating a sense of community, we can bring light and hope to others. Together, as a family and school community, let us use this time to grow in kindness and compassion, standing tall and united no matter what challenges come our way.

School Wide Positive Behaviours
It’s that time of year again, when Mrs. Spackman sends out reminders about Library books that still need to be returned before year’s end.
Please check under beds, behind bookshelves, in cars, at the bottom of school bags, or even under the dog—wherever your books might be hiding!
Also, just a quick note: there’s a $10 fee for any lost or damaged books.
If you can get them back in the next couple of weeks, it’ll really make
