Dear Parents and Friends
On Monday, we celebrated our Parish Feast Day - the feast of The Annunciation which celebrates the actual Incarnation of Our Lord, the Word made flesh in the womb of his mother, Mary.
In Luke’s Gospel, the angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she is to become the mother of Jesus. Despite her apprehension and what must have been a completely overwhelming emotion and confusion Mary’s response is: ‘Let it be done to me according to your word’. In other words, and as the children are taught, Mary said ‘Yes’ to God. What an enormous amount of trust she displayed! We too can ask ourselves: Am I really listening so that I can hear the messages God is sending me? What is the special part that God wants me to play in life? Do I really trust in God’s plan for me and have I said ‘yes’ to God?
It was a fabulous day at St Jude's, where we celebrated our Parish Feast Day, two parish schools coming together. I thank Laura Matchett and Jess Betterton (St Jude's REC) for all their planning and organisation. A heartfelt thanks to Mr Cameron Reed, the St Jude's staff and community for making us feel so welcomed. An enjoyable day was had by everyone.
School Events - Thanks
Thank you for being present for the EASTER PRAYER CELEBRATIONS. Although, Easter almost seems a distant memory, the presentations were all prayerful, meaningful and reminded us of the enormous love that surrounds us. Thank you to the teachers and their classes who worked hard to present these beautiful Easter messages.
As a community we celebrated CARNEVALE last Wednesday. Children were proud to be wearing their masks and smiling a pasta smile from ear to ear. I thank Signora Monagle, Signoa Howard, Mel at the canteen and the group of volunteers who ensured there was enough pasta and garlic bread for everyone.
An enjoyable night was had last Thursday at the DISCO. It was wonderful to see students enjoying the freedom of dancing to music whilst having fun with their friends and some parents. Community events like this don't just happen, thank you to Kylie L and her team of volunteers who ensured the night was a success.
Enrolments for 2025
Enrolment time will be here again early in Term 2 (2 May – 27 May). If you have a little one ready for school in 2025 or you know of anyone interested in enrolling at St John Vianney's, our open days are every Wednesday in May 10.30am until 5pm and on Saturday 4 May from 9.30am until 12.30pm. Families who are not able to come at those times are welcome to contact the school to arrange a time to come and visit.
Cyber Safety
With the holidays upon us, it is timely to think about cyber safety for your children. Parents need to be aware that ‘facebook’ and other social networking sites recommend that users be over the age of 13 years, placing users in the secondary age group or older. Do you know if your child is on ‘facebook’ (or part of some other internet group) or has been invited to be a member of someone else’s facebook site? There is the potential for online sites to promote bullying and create child protection issues if used inappropriately and without adult supervision. I strongly recommend you speak with your child if they are in Year 4 or above to find out what they are ‘up to’ on the computer. Students should never give their name, address, age, photo or personal details to anyone online and should not accept invitations to join online sites without your knowledge. More information can be accessed at www.staysmartonline.gov.au
Cross Country Carnival
The Cross Country Carnival will be held, tomorrow, 12th of April. It will begin in the middle session of the school day, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, and will be held on school grounds.
To ensure the event runs smoothly and safely, we are seeking volunteers from our supportive community. We are calling on parents and carers who are available to lend a hand on the day. Please email anna.mihalyka@cg.catholic.edu.au if you can assist in any way. You will need to bring your WWVP card or if you do not have a current card, sign a statutory declaration.
Additionally, we warmly welcome parent spectators to join us on the day to cheer on our students as they tackle the course. Your presence will surely add to the excitement of the event. Your involvement and support are invaluable in ensuring the success of our Cross Country event. We are thankful for any contribution, big or small.
ANZAC Day ceremony
We will be holding an ANZAC Day ceremony after we return from holidays at 2:40pm on Friday 3 May. This will be held in the school hall and presented by Year 3. Parents, carers and families are most welcome to attend.
Start of Term Two
Term Two begins on Tuesday 30th April. When students return to school, they should be wearing their winter uniform. However, there is a period of two week’s grace when either the summer or winter uniform can be worn to accommodate fluctuating weather conditions at this time of the year.
Mrs D’s ‘Thought of the Week….’
I do hope that all our families will enjoy a safe, peaceful and relaxing holiday break and I look forward to seeing everyone again in a couple of weeks.

Gospel Reflection: Luke 24:35-48
In this passage, we witness a pivotal moment in the journey of the disciples following the resurrection of Jesus. They are still grappling with the reality of His resurrection, trying to comprehend the magnitude of what has occurred. As they gather together, Jesus appears among them, offering peace and reassurance. One of the striking aspects of this passage is Jesus' emphasis on His physical presence. He invites the disciples to touch Him and see that He is not merely a spirit, but truly alive. This underscores the reality of the resurrection and serves as a reminder of the tangible nature of our faith.
Furthermore, Jesus opens the disciples' minds to understand the scriptures. He connects the dots between what was prophesied in the Old Testament and how it has been fulfilled in Him. This highlights the continuity of God's plan throughout history and emphasises the significance of scripture in deepening our understanding of God's purposes.
Project Compassion
Thank you again to everyone who was able to donate to our Project Compassion fundraiser throughout Lent this year. As a school we raised just over $300 which is a fantastic effort. Congratulations to Jaleyah, Willis and Joseph who were the lucky winners of our Easter Egg Guessing Competition. We hope you are enjoying your winnings!
